There are wineries in East Kelowna. It’s true. Some of the wineries are new although there are some very old vineyards there. What’s amazing that it’s taken this long for a group of wineries to band together and market themselves as a wine region worth touring like Naramata, Mount Boucherie and the Golden Mile. But are the wines good?
Let’s just say there are some star wine makers (Tom DiBello and Ann Sperling) who are making wine with some old vines (32 year old Riesling, 45 year old Marichel Foch) and the results (so far as I’ve tasted) have been spectacular. Along with The View (excellent marketing with a hilarious video) and Tantalus, who are already well established and on the radar world-wide for their Riesling, other newer wineries will make this region is poised to become one of the big star regions of the Okanagan. Take note of the names of these wineries in this podcast and make a point of seeking out their wines or visiting them on your next trip.
In 10 years you’ll be glad to say that you remembered visiting them for their very first vintage.
